BLACKPINK’s Lisa faced criticism after her Met Gala outfit appeared to feature civil rights icon Rosa Parks’ face near the pelvic area of her bodysuit. Now, the artist involved in the design is speaking out to correct the record.
A representative for Henry Taylor, the painter who collaborated with Pharrell Williams on Lisa’s Louis Vuitton ensemble, confirmed to Vulture that the image in question was not Parks, but rather one of Taylor’s neighbors.

“The figures on Lisa’s outfit—like those on previous Louis Vuitton pieces featuring Taylor’s work—are all inspired by people from his personal life: friends, family, and neighbors,” the rep explained. “These designs were pulled directly from Henry’s existing artwork, which LVMH used for Pharrell’s debut 2023 collection with Louis Vuitton.”
They added, “None of the individuals depicted are Rosa Parks or any other historical figures. They are simply people meaningful to Henry.”
Lisa, a global ambassador for Louis Vuitton, made her Met Gala debut in a striking black lace-printed jacket layered over a bodysuit adorned with embroidered portraits. While the look aligned with this year’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” controversy erupted when viewers mistook one of the faces for Parks—particularly due to its placement.

Social media backlash was swift, with critics calling the design “tone-deaf” and “disrespectful.” However, the confusion stemmed from a misunderstanding: the artwork was never intended to depict Parks, and the bodysuit’s construction (not underwear) showcased Taylor’s personal portraits.
Louis Vuitton has yet to comment further, but Taylor’s team hopes the clarification puts the debate to rest.
