Emma Watson Handed Six-Month Driving Ban for Speeding – Alongside Another Harry Potter Star

Emma Watson, best known for her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films, has been banned from driving for six months after accumulating too many speeding penalties. The 35-year-old actress already had nine points on her license when she was caught driving 38 mph in a 30 mph zone in Oxford on July 31, 2024.

Watson, who had been pursuing a master’s degree in creative writing at the University of Oxford before leaving the program, is now working toward a PhD—which may explain why she was in the area at the time. She did not attend her court hearing but was ordered to pay a fine of approximately $1,400.

Her lawyer, Mark Haslam, stated, “She is prepared to pay the fine promptly.”

Interestingly, Watson wasn’t the only Harry Potter star facing speeding charges around the same time. Zoe Wanamaker, 76, who played Madam Hooch in the franchise, was caught driving 46 mph in a 40 mph zone on August 7, 2024—just a week after Watson’s offense. Like Watson, Wanamaker already had nine points on her license and also missed her court hearing.

Both actresses received identical fines, and District Judge Arvind Sharma added three more points to each of their licenses, resulting in an automatic six-month driving ban for both.
